Sometimes you need to know the exact version of the Windows operating system running on your personal computer or laptop. In this post, I’d like to share 4 ways to check Windows version easily, as described below.

Check Windows version via System Settings

Click Start menu, then click the Settings button to open Windows Settings. Then click System:

On the Settings screen, click About menu in the bottom left corner. Then on the right side, scroll down a little bit to see the Windows version information under Windows specifications, as shown below:

Here you can see edition, version and OS build number of your Windows OS.

Check Windows version via System Information

The second way to check version of your Windows operating system is by opening the System Information program. Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog, then type msinfo32 as shown in the following screenshot:

Click OK, the System Information program appears. It shows the OS name and version in the default System Summary section:

Here you can see full OS Name, version number and build
number.

Check Windows version using winver command

The third way you can use to know the exact version of your Windows is by opening the About Windows dialog using winver command. Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog, type winver and click OK. The About Windows dialog will appear like this:

Here you can see another representation of Windows version and OS build number.


Check Windows version in Command Prompt

The fourth way to check Windows version is using the Command Prompt program. If you open a new Command Prompt window for the first time (press Windows + R, type cmd and hit OK), you will see it shows the Windows version first:

Also, any time in the command prompt you can type the ver command to see version of the operating system, as shown below:

Those are 4 easy ways which you can use to check the version of your Windows operating system.
