This is a step-by-step guide on adding add-on domains to your NameCheap hosting server. An add-on domain is an additional domain that you add to the server alongside the primary domain (the first one). You can install multiple domains on a single host; the first one is called the primary domain, and the others are referred to as add-on domains.

NOTE: To follow this guide, you must purchase the add-on domain beforehand, as you can’t add an unpaid domain in your hosting control panel (cPanel).

First, sign in to the cPanel of your hosting server, open the Domains tools by typing ‘domain’ into the search box, and click the first result:

Or you can find the Domains tool in the tool list on the home page:

Next, on the List Domains page, click the Create A New Domain button:

Create a New Domain button

Next, on the Create a New Domain page, enter name of the add-on domain that you want to add:

Then it will show the Share document root option, but don’t check it, as it’s best practice to separate the document root of the new domain from that of the primary domain.

Next, click the Submit button. It will display the following message:

Wait a few seconds while the new domain is being added to your hosting server. You should then see the following success message:

This means you have successfully added the add-on domain to your hosting server. Take note of the information in the message:

Success added domain message

Your website will be offline until your domain is pointed to hosting nameservers…

This means you will need to go to your NameCheap account and configure DNS of the newly added domain to ensure it points to the correct name servers:

dns1.namecheaphosting.com

dns2.namecheaphosting.com

Finally, you should see the new domain appear below the primary domain in the list, as shown below:

And that’s my guide to creating a new add-on domain in cPanel, allowing you to set up a new website with that domain on your NameCheap hosting server. I hope you find this post helpful. Thanks for reading!
